SEGUIN, Texas – The Texas Lutheran women’s basketball team dropped LeTourneau by 24 points, 72-48, and snapped a 29-game losing skid in the American Southwest Conference.
Monday night in TLU’s Memorial Gymnasium, the Bulldogs controlled the game from the start. TLU led 33-19 at the half and by as many as 28 in the second half.
TLU improved to 2-5 overall and to 1-4 in the ASC. LeTourneau fell to 3-8 overall and to 2-4 in the ASC.
Earlier in the year, TLU snapped a 31-game overall losing streak. TLU’s two wins for the 2008-09 season eclipse the combined wins for the program in the previous two seasons.
TLU sophomore post Courtney Haskell (San Antonio/Southwest) recorded her second straight double-double and tied her career-mark for blocks, with five. Haskell scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She was 5-for-7 from the field.
First-year post Rebecca Valdez (McAllen/McAllen) scored a career-high 12 points and added career-bests in rebounds (seven) and blocks (three). Valdez was 6-for-9 from the field.
Freshmen Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt) and Jocelyn Langford (Omaha, Neb./San Antonio Clark) contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Timpson grabbed six rebounds, and Langford dished out seven assists.
TLU held LeTourneau to 20.5 percent shooting (15 for 73) from the field and to 27.8 shooting (5-for-18) from the three-point line. The YellowJackets missed 26 of their first 32 shots.
The Bulldogs shot a season-best 42 percent from the field. TLU hit 16 of its 36 shots in the second half (44.4 percent).
The Bulldogs continue ASC play this Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. home game against Schreiner University.
