No. 17 Trinity hands TLU three-game loss

SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity Tigers, ranked 17th in the latest AVCA poll for NCAA Division III, scored a three-game victory over Texas Lutheran on Friday at the Trinity Fall Classic.

Trinity defeated TLU 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.

In Trinity’s Sams Gymnasium, Amy Mittlestaedt paced the Tigers with 11 kills, an ace, eight digs, and four blocks. Ginger Haley and Aly Hazelwood added eight and seven kills, respectively.

Caiti Troyer dished out 32 assists for the Tigers. Troyer added a team-best 17 digs.

Trinity improved to 22-8. TLU fell to 16-7 with the non-conference loss.

TLU junior outside hitter Jessica Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill)led TLU with 11 kills. She added 14 digs.

No other TLU player had more than five kills.

Senior setter Amanda Curry (Lago Vista/Lago Vista/Hardin-Simmons) ended the match with 19 assists, and Blair O’Brien (Austin/Manor) recorded 19 digs.

TLU plays two matches Saturday at the Trinity Fall Classic. Bulldogs face Elmhurst (Ill.) at 10 a.m. and play fellow American Southwest Conference school University of Texas at Tyler in a 2 p.m. match. The TLU/Texas-Tyler match is a non-conference contest.
