HPU edges TLU 1-0 in men's soccer

SEGUIN, Texas – Kelton McMillan’s goal in the 73rd minute proved to be the match-winner for Howard Payne in a 1-0 victory over Texas Lutheran on Saturday.

At TLU’s Gustafson Field, McMillan took a feed from Jaime Benitez and scored for the Yellow Jackets.

HPU moved to 2-3 overall with the win and moved to 1-1 in the American Southwest Conference.

Saturday’s loss dropped TLU to 0-5 overall and to 0-2 in the ASC.

TLU out-shot HPU 17-8, but shots on goal between the two teams were more even. TLU led in shots on goal 7-5.

HPU goalkeeper Francisco Medina registered seven saves. TLU keeper Trey Tesno recorded four saves.

The Bulldogs’ next match, another ASC contest, is set for 4 p.m. Friday. The Bulldogs host Schreiner at TLU’s Gustafson Field.
