KERRVILLE, Texas – The Texas Lutheran men’s golf team opened its spring season with a third-place team finish Tuesday at the Schreiner Spring Shootout.
Played at Comanche Trace golf course, the Bulldogs followed up Monday’s round of 315 with a 318 Tuesday.
The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 633, 19 shots behind McMurry and 28 shots behind team champion University of Texas-Pan American.
Andrew Long (Seguin/Seguin/Univ. of Houston) led TLU with a fourth-place individual finish. Long, a junior, carded rounds of 77 and 75 for a total of 152.
UT-Pan American’s Armen Kirakossian won the event with a total score of 142. Kirakossian had a two-under 70 on Monday and an even-par 72 on Tuesday.
TLU received a pair of 14th-place finishes from sophomore Jacob Mock (Austin/Westlake) and freshman Chris Hyten (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek). Mock posted scores of 77 and 83, and Hyten had rounds of 79 and 81.
Junior Erik Peterson (Kelso, Wash./Kelso) and freshman Dither Castro (Weslaco/Weslaco) finished in 19th and 25th places, respectively. Peterson had scores of 82 and 79, and Castro fired an 82 and 84.
TLU individual players Cory Baker (La Vernia/La Vernia) and Randy Baucom (Corpus Christi/Incarnate Word Academy) placed 23rd and 29th. Baker shot 79 and 83, and Baucom had an 85 and an 84.
TLU’s next scheduled tournament is the Callaway Gardens Invitational in Pine Mountain, Ga. The tournament starts March 2 and ends March 3.
