SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Lutheran men’s golf junior varsity moved up two spots in the team standings and finished fifth at the Trinity University Alamo City Classic, which concluded Tuesday at River Crossing Golf Club.
The TLU JV received three scores in the 70s – from Eric Waggoner (78), Matthew Matta (79) and Patrick Gunter (78) – on Tuesday. The Bulldogs took those three scores and Jacob Mock’s 81 to move past the varsity teams of University of Texas at Brownsville and LeTourneau in the team standings. TLU edged UT-Brownsville 635 to 637.
Southwestern University won the men’s team title with a score of 597. The Pirates were followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor (608), McMurry (613), Trinity (618), TLU, UT-Brownsville, Trinity “B” (644) and LeTourneau (646).
TLU individual golfer A.J. Vesey moved up to a tie for sixth with a second-round 73. Vesey (78-73 = 151) finished eight shots behind tournament individual medalist Stephen Gehring of Southwestern (72-71 = 143).
Waggoner (79-78 = 157) led the TLU JV with a 19th-place finish. Matta (79-79 = 158) and Mock (79-81 = 160) finished in 22nd and 25th positions. Gunter (82-78 = 160) also tied for 25th. Kerry Ondrovik (89-83 = 172) came home in 41st.
