MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Texas Lutheran men’s golf varsity squad finished in a tie for eighth at the Gordin Collegiate Classic, which concluded Monday at the Members Club at Grand Dunes.
In a tournament filled with 10 of the Top 25 teams in NCAA Division III, the Bulldogs posted rounds of 299 and 304. TLU tied with No.8-ranked Ohio Wesleyan in eighth place. Both teams finished with two-round totals of 603.
Oglethorpe, ranked 9th in the Golfstat head-to-head rankings entering the tournament, won the Gordin Collegiate title with scores of 295 and 285. Oglethorpe (579) posted a nine-shot victory over Rhodes College (588).
Rounding out the Gordin Collegiate field were: Huntingdon College (589), Wisconsin Eau Claire (590), St. John’s (592), Nebraska Wesleyan (597), Transylvania (600), Ohio Wesleyan, TLU, Guilford (606), La Verne (607) and Carthage (626).
TLU received a seventh-place individual finish from Jeff Rein (Garden Ridge/Central Catholic). The first-year player fired a 1-over par 72 on Sunday and 3-over par 74 on Monday.
Senior golfer Tanner Carter (Boerne/Boerne) carded back-to-back rounds of 75 to finish in a tie for 24th.
Neil Simpson (Boling/Boling) and Ryan Kiel (Seguin/Seguin) tied for 41st and 47th, respectively. Simpson had rounds of 77 and 77, and Kiel shot two rounds of 78. Andrew Long (Seguin/Seguin) posted a 75 on Sunday and an 82 on Monday to finish in a tie for 50th.
