SEGUIN, Texas – Third-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor rolled up 614 yards of total offense and moved its American Southwest Conference win streak to 30 games with a 59-7 victory Saturday night over Texas Lutheran.
At Seguin’s Matador Stadium UMHB (2-0, 1-0 ASC) led 45-0 at the half and 59-0 until the final play of the game. TLU’s Jonathon Randle grabbed a 43-yard TD pass from Jarret Buchholtz to get the Bulldogs on the board.
TLU dropped to 0-2 overall and to 0-1 in the ASC.
The Cru rushed for 354 yards on 42 carries, averaging 8.4 yards per carry.
The Cru also excelled through the air, throwing for 260 yards and completing 21 of 23 passes.
UMHB running back Quincy Daniels went over the 100-yard mark with only five carries. He finished with 110 yards and a 66-yard TD.
UMHB back-up QB LiDarral Bailey added five rushes for 91 yards with a 58-yard score. Bailey also was 10-for-11 passing with 142 yards and a 54-yard TD pass to Brian Scott.
Starting QB Kyle Noack was 11-for-12 with 118 yards and a TD pass.
TLU was held to 228 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs rushed for 71 yards and threw for 157.
Bulldog Quinnten Cleveland rushed 12 times for 50 yards, and Randle finished the game with four catches for 77 yards, with the 43-yard TD from Buchholtz.
TLU quarterbacks Buchholtz and freshman Rocky Huff were a combined 12-for-28 with three interceptions. Buchholtz threw for 142 yards with two picks. He was sacked three times. Huff, last week’s starter in a 1-point loss to Trinity, was 0-for-2 with an interception and a sack.
Huff threw an interception to UMHB’s Javicz Jones, who returned the pick 61 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. UMHB’s final three scores of the first half covered 61, 54, and 58 yards, respectively.
TLU hits the road next week for a conference road game at East Texas Baptist. Game time in Marshall, Texas is set for 7 p.m.
