Hot-shooting UMHB men too much for Bulldogs

SEGUIN, Texas – The Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team made seven of its first 10 three-pointers and shot 53.4 percent from the field for the game in rolling to a 97-81 win Thursday over Texas Lutheran at TLU’s Memorial Gymnasium.

Tim Lytle led the shooting barrage for the Crusaders. The senior from San Antonio nailed four three-pointers (two in each half) and finished 7-for-13 from the field with a game-high 19 points.

UMHB hit 60 percent of its total three-point attempts (9-for-15) and made 26 of 39 foul shots.

UMHB climbed to 15-7 overall and to 13-5 in the American Southwest Conference West Division.

TLU, battling for a spot in the ASC Championship Tournament, fell to 6-15 overall and to 6-12 in the ASC West. The Bulldogs entered the evening in a five-way tie for third place in the ASC West. The top four teams in the ASC West advance to the conference tournament.

Jason Wagner and Tilmon Gaddy each scored 14 for the Crusaders, and Ervin Johnson added 11. Gaddy and Johnson each posted eight rebounds.

The Crusaders dominated the glass, out-rebounding TLU by 20, 46 to 26. The Crusaders enjoyed an advantage of 18-9 on the offensive boards.

TLU received 19 points from Brad Howard (Houston/Cypress Creek) and Isaac Williams (San Antonio/Wagner). Michael Flores (Spring/Klein Collins) made three three-pointers and finished with 11 points. Williams led the team in rebounds, with seven, and Howard paced the team in assists, with five.

The Bulldogs head to north Austin for Saturday’s 3 p.m. contest with Concordia Texas.
