TLU men stumble at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – Richard Worthy’s 19 points and nine rebounds propelled the Mississippi College Choctaws to an 86-67 American Southwest Conference victory Monday over Texas Lutheran University.

At MC’s A.E. Wood Coliseum, Worthy and the Choctaws used a 24-7 run, spread over the final three minutes of the first half and into the first five minutes of the second half, to break open a close game.

TLU never recovered from the Choctaws’ surge. The Bulldogs could not cut the MC lead lower than 15 for the remainder of the game.

MC improved to 4-2 overall and to 2-2 in the ASC.

TLU fell to 1-4 overall and to 1-2 in the ASC.

Bulldog seniors Nate Walton (Houston/Westside) and Josh Scott (The Woodlands/The Woodlands) each scored 12. Walton was 4-for-10 from the field with two three-pointers. Scott hit five of his eight field goal attempts and grabbed seven rebounds.

Brad Howard (Houston/Cypress Creek) and Jonathan Hutton (Austin/Lake Travis) each added nine. Malcolm Dotson (LaMarque/LaMarque) collected a game-high five steals to go with his five points.

The Bulldogs made 38.5 percent of their total field goal attempts. TLU shot 26.3 percent from the three-point line and 62.9 percent from the foul line.

MC hit 30 of its 60 field goal attempts. The Choctaws’ Jonathan Stokes contributed 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Michael Penson added 13 points.

TLU returns to its home court at Memorial Gymnasium for Saturday’s conference game with East Texas Baptist University. Game time is set for 3 p.m. For Saturday’s game, TLU will have live stats and a live audio webcast from www.tlu.edu/athletics.
