SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler put four players in double figures and out-rebounded Texas Lutheran by 21 in an 83-70 American Southwest Conference victory Saturday at TLU’s Memorial Gymnasium.
Texas-Tyler’s Marlon Hill led all scorers with 20 points. Anthony Reese added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Patriots’ Michael Johnson and Hakeem Kareem chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Texas-Tyler (1-4, 1-0 ASC) shot 46.2 percent in the first half and 46.9 percent in the second half.
TLU (0-3, 0-1 ASC) fell behind by 11 in the first half and by as many as 20 in the second half. But the Bulldogs cut the Patriots’ lead down to eight with 6:21 to play in the game.
Nine points from freshman Isaac Williams (San Antonio/Wagner) keyed a 14-3 run for the Bulldogs that brought a 19-point Texas-Tyler lead down to eight.
Williams finished with a team-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Tyler Wanek (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg) added 14 points and six rebounds. Nate Walton (Houston/Westside) scored 10.
Texas-Tyler sealed the conference victory with a quick 11-0 run that took the eight-point lead back up to 19 with 3:20 remaining in the game.
TLU now hits the road for conference contests at Louisiana College (Dec. 6) and at Mississippi College (Dec. 8).
