Tommy JonesJones and his staff welcome eight new players to the program. The 2008-09 recruiting class includes six true freshmen and one junior college player.
Coach Jones brings 27 years of coaching experience to TLU. Jones was the head coach at Houston Baptist University from 1984-88 and has served as an NCAA Division I assistant at the University of Houston, Rice University, Houston Baptist and the University of Texas at El Paso.
Jones is the coach at the university where his son Josh played four years and earned his bachelor’s degree. Josh Jones played at TLU from 1993 to 1997 and scored 949 points for the Bulldogs.
At the time of hiring, Coach Jones remarked: “I am excited to have the opportunity to coach at Texas Lutheran because I have some ties there, and I am drawn to the small college atmosphere and to working at a Christian school. But above all, I am just looking forward to working with the kids again.”
Jones also was a head coach at the high school level and at the junior college level. He coached at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas from 1993 to 1995 and at Walton High School in DeFuniak Springs, Flor., from 1969 to 1974. Jones was the head coach at Panola Junior College in Carthage, Texas for one season, 1975-76.
At Lamar Consolidated, Jones compiled a two-year coaching record of 47-18 and played for a Class 4A regional title in 1995.
Jones led Houston Baptist, then a member of NCAA Division I, to one Trans America Athletic Conference title and to two second-place finishes in that league.
As an assistant coach at Houston with Pat Foster, Jones and the Cougars averaged 22 wins per season, received two bids to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament, and received two bids to the National Invitational Tournament. Houston won the 1992 Southwest Conference Championship and finished second twice.
In Jones’s time as an assistant at Houston Baptist, from 1982-84, the Huskies went to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament in 1984. In that season, HBU led the nation in field goal percentage and in field goal percentage defense.
Jones has a bachelor of science degree from Florida State University and a master of science degree from Troy State University.
Coach Jones has worked with 17 players that have played either professional basketball or football. He has coached five NBA players and 10 international league basketball players.
Jones and his late wife of 38 years, Susan, have three adult sons (Mac, Josh and David) and five grandchildren.

Scott Bigott is in his second season as the lead assistant coach for Texas Lutheran men’s basketball Head Coach Tommy Jones. Bigott assists Coach Jones in all facets of the men’s basketball program.
Coach Bigott is a native of Houston and received his undergraduate degree from Houston Baptist University. He has a bachelor’s of science degree in education, history, kinesiology and physiology. He has a master’s of education from the University of Houston with concentrations in sport history, sport psychology, and sport sociology.
Coach Bigott is the son of Wilbert and Jayne Bigott. Coach Bigott is married. He and his wife Tammy have three children – Brittany, 13, Brooke, 8, and Braedon, 4.
Coach Bigott, a point guard in college, played professionally in Europe. He took graduate courses at the University of Heidelberg in 18th/19th Century European History.
Coach Bigott has coached basketball for 16 years (winning over 300 games). He was the head coach at Anderson-Shiro High School, leading the Owls to the 1996 Class A state championship final. He was named the 1996 Texas High School Coach of the Year.
Coach Bigott has worked as a businessman in three separate businesses. He currently owns his own insurance agency in the Houston area.

Rudy Fernandez is in his fourth year with the men’s basketball program. The 2008-09 season will be Coach Fernandez’s first season as a full assistant coach, after spending the previous three years as a student manager and student assistant coach.
Coach Fernandez is a native of San Antonio and a graduate of Antonian College Preparatory School. He graduated from Texas Lutheran University in 2008.
Kevin White is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs. A native of Flint, Mich., Coach White resides in the San Antonio area.

Andrew Fernandez is in his first year as the student manager for the Bulldogs. Andrew, the younger brother of Assistant Coach Rudy Fernandez, is a native of San Antonio and a graduate of St. Anthony Catholic High School in San Antonio.
