ALPINE, Texas – Cody Miller homered twice and drove in five runs as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs belted four long balls in a 13-0 conference win over Sul Ross State, Friday evening at Kokernot Field.
TLU kept its lead in the American Southwest Conference West Division with the victory. The Bulldogs moved to 20-11 overall and to 9-4 in the ASC West Division.
Sul Ross State dropped to 4-27 overall and to 3-10 ASC West Division.
Miller, TLU’s sophomore designated hitter from New Braunfels (New Braunfels), started the scoring with a two-run home run over the right field wall in the second inning. He blasted a three-run homer over the left field wall in the seventh. The five RBI established a new career mark for Miller.
Jeremy Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) and Drew Farr (Taylor/Taylor) also homered for the Bulldogs. Macklin belted a solo home run, his ninth, in the fourth inning, and Farr delivered a two-run home run in the fifth. The home run was Farr's ninth of the year.
The run support was plenty for TLU freshman right-hander Brad Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek), who pitched seven scoreless innings in improving to 7-1. Orosey scattered nine hits and struck out four.
Orosey and Louis Lee (Cypress/Cypress Christian/Eastfield JC) combined on the shutout. Lee did not allow a hit in two innings of work.
Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian) had one hit and four RBI. He recorded a bases-clearing double and an RBI groundout.
TLU and Sul Ross State conclude the conference three-game series with a noon doubleheader Saturday from Kokernot Field.
