SEGUIN, Texas – Jeremy Macklin singled home Kyle Harvey in the bottom of the ninth to give the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs a 4-3 non-conference win over Concordia Nebraska.
Tuesday afternoon at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) and Cody Miller each had two hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs (13-7). Ryan Nokelby (Santa Fe/Santa Fe) also had two hits, walked twice and scored a run.
Concordia Nebraska, an NAIA school out of Seward, Neb., dropped to 3-10 overall with the loss.
Macklin pitched the ninth inning for TLU and picked up the victory. He struck out one and did not allow a hit. He improved to 1-1.
Payton McLachlan took the loss for Concordia.
Concordia starter Jacob Yurich went six innings, struck out three, walked three and scattered seven hits.
TLU’s Ryan Fewell (Groesbeck/Groesbeck) made his first career start and went 4-1/3 innings. He allowed six hits, struck out two and walked one. Jeremiah Steinert appeared in relief in the fifth and went 3-2/3. Steinert gave up two earned runs, three hits and a walk. He struck out two.
Raymond Cooper delivered three hits for Concordia. Morgan Blatnik and B.J. Swearer each had RBI.
TLU returns to American Southwest Conference play this Friday and Saturday with a three-game series in Abilene against McMurry. Friday’s single 9-inning game is set for a 7 p.m. start. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
