SEGUIN, Texas – Drew Farr homered twice and drove in six runs as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs posted a 14-6 non-conference win Tuesday over Southwestern University.
At TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, Farr (Taylor/Taylor) launched a 415-foot, two-run home run to dead center field in the third inning and belted a 380-foot, three-run homer in the seventh inning.
TLU moved to 6-2 overall with the victory. Southwestern dropped to 6-4.
Farr, TLU’s senior designated hitter, also collected an RBI fielder’s choice in the fourth inning.
TLU led 10-1 after five innings, giving junior starting pitcher Jeremiah Steinert (Sugar Land/Dulles) a comfortable lead.
Steinert made his first career start and pitched 5-2/3 innings. He allowed three earned runs, struck out five and walked one.
Chris Green (Austin/Bowie/Concordia Texas) hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, and Jeremy Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) drove in four runs with two RBI singles and a two-RBI double.
Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian) scored four times and had two hits and two stolen bases, and Andrew Femath (El Paso/Montwood/Howard JC) scored three times and collected two hits. Cody Miller (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) also recorded two hits for the Bulldogs.
Southwestern’s Todd Boone was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and John Wooten and Nate Shipp each posted two hits.
Chris Churchwell (2-1) took the pitching loss for the Pirates. Churchwell went three innings and allowed five earned runs. The Pirates used six pitchers.
TLU travels to Richardson, Texas for a Friday-Saturday, three-game series with the University of Texas at Dallas. The Bulldogs and Comets will play a single, 9-inning game Friday, starting at 2 p.m. The two teams will conclude the series with a Saturday doubleheader (one 7-inning game, one 9-inning game). The doubleheader will start at noon.
