SEGUIN, Texas – Kenneth Cedillo pitched 7-1/3 innings of one-run baseball to lead the California State East Bay Pioneers to a 9-1 non-conference win Friday over Texas Lutheran.
At TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, Cedillo (2-0) scattered seven hits and survived five walks and a hit batter in holding down the Bulldogs. Cedillo allowed just the one run, but it was not earned. He struck out three.
East Bay improved to 3-4 overall. TLU dropped to 3-2.
TLU committed six errors in the field. The six errors led to four unearned runs.
Mark Marelich, John Howard and Tyler Shook each drove in a pair of runs for the Pioneers. Howard and Shook each had a double.
Stephen Gatehouse scored twice for the Pioneers. Seven different Pioneers crossed home plate on Friday.
TLU’s Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian) and Jeremy Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) were each 2-for-4. Harvey registered a double.
Logan Hull (0-2) took the loss for TLU. The Victoria Memorial product pitched 2-1/3 innings and allowed four earned runs.
Casey Zamora (Seguin/Seguin), Ian Compton (Llano/Llano/Eastfield JC), and Ryan Fewell (Groesbeck/Groesbeck) also saw time on the mound Friday.
TLU and East Bay play game two of the three game series Saturday. First pitch at Katt-Isbel Field is set for 1 p.m. The series concludes Sunday, also at Katt-Isbel Field, with a noon game. All three games of the series are single, 9-inning contests.
