SEGUIN, Texas – Freshman right-hander Brad Orosey pitched five innings of one-run baseball and received a two-run homer and an RBI single from Clay Childress in Texas Lutheran’s 7-3 win over Trinity on Tuesday.
At TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, Oresey (Houston/Cypress Creek) made his first collegiate start and surrendered just four hits and one earned run. He struck out three.
Childress (Houston/Jersey Village/Eastfield JC) pounded a second-inning pitch over the left field wall for his second home run in as many games. Ryan Nokelby (Santa Fe/Santa Fe) singled and then scored on the Childress blast.
The Childress home run put TLU in front 2-1 after Trinity took an early lead on a Steven Ramos double.
TLU improved to 3-1 with the non-conference win. Trinity dropped to 0-4.
TLU extended the lead with a three-run fourth. Cody Miller (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) drove home Drew Farr (Taylor/Taylor) on an RBI fielder’s choice. Miller and Nokelby scored later in the inning on a fielding error by the Tigers.
The Bulldog lead grew to 7-1 with solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Childress singled home Farr in the fifth, and Jeremy Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) brought home Chris Green (Austin/Bowie/Concordia Texas) with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.
Tom Hembree (Burnet/Burnet), Patrick Pederson (Pearland/Pearland) and Macklin pitched the final four innings for the Bulldogs and did not allow an earned run. Macklin, the starting third baseman, came to the mound in the eighth and recorded the game’s final four outs for TLU.
Evan Jones, Kevin Calbrick and Ramos each collected two hits. Trinity RBI went to Kevin Jackson, Dylan Early and Ramos.
Clint Robertson (0-2) took the loss for the Tigers. Mike Panozzo pitched the final 2-2/3 innings and allowed just one hit.
