SEGUIN, Texas – Clay Childress homered and collected three hits to lift the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 4-3 non-conference win Sunday over Austin College.
TLU won the three-game series 2-1. The Bulldogs and Kangaroos split a Saturday doubleheader in Seguin.
At TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, Childress (Houston/Jersey Village/Eastfield JC) hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
TLU took a 4-2 lead on Austin College with runs coming home on an error and a wild pitch.
Austin College added a run in the eighth inning, but TLU freshman right-hander Brad Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) recorded three outs in the ninth to register his first collegiate save.
Jeremiah Steinert (Sugar Land/Dulles) picked up his first collegiate victory with 4-1/3 innings of relief. He allowed just two hits and one earned run and struck out four.
Steinert appeared in relief for starter Louis Lee (Cypress/Cypress Christian/Eastfield JC), who went 3-2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs. Lee walked six and struck out three.
Will Chermak took the loss for Austin College. Chermak allowed four runs (three earned) in 5-2/3 innings. He walked six and struck out three.
TLU center fielder Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian) had two hits and a run scored. The Bulldogs’ only other RBI went to left fielder Cody Miller (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), who singled in the first.
