Women’s Cross Country

Texas Lutheran competed Saturday at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. and finished seventh out of the 10 teams competing in the women’s race. (Full Results)

The Bulldogs ended the meet with a total of 229 points. Cornell won the team title with a score of 20. Akron and Buffalo were second and third, respectively, with scores of 44 and 88.

TLU’s top finisher was Chelsea Johnson (Katy/Cinco Ranch), who crossed the line in 20 minutes, 43 seconds and placed 50th overall. Fellow Bulldog Tiffany Wetz (Spring Branch/Bracken Christian/Texas-San Antonio) finished six seconds behind Johnson and took home 54th place.

Samantha Gutierrez (Converse/Judson) and Ravin McCallum (San Antonio/Roosevelt) posted times of 21:59 and 22:49, respectively. Jackie Allen (Katy/Mayde Creek) and Hillary Davidson (China Spring/China Spring) collected times of 23:13 and 23:35.

The Bulldogs host the Texas DIII Championships this Saturday on the TLU campus. The meet will feature many of the top DIII men’s and women’s cross country teams in Texas. Eleven men’s teams and 10 women’s teams are scheduled to compete. The women’s race (6K) starts at 8 a.m., and the men’s race (8K) starts at 9 a.m.

Men’s Golf 

The Texas Lutheran men’s golf team finished 16th at the Rhodes College Men’s Fall Classic in Tunica, Miss. The Bulldogs posted rounds of 310 and 322 for total team score of 632. Huntingdon College won the tournament with rounds of 286 and 295 for a final score of 581. (Full Results)

TLU senior Andrew  Long (Seguin/Seguin) tied for 15th after rounds of 71 and 76, and Dither Castro (Weslaco/Weslaco) tied for 50th after scores of 76 and 78.

Erik Peterson (Kelso, Wash./Kelso) and Jacob Mock (Austin/Westlake) finished 83rd and 100th overall, respectively.

Football

Texas Lutheran (0-2, 0-1 ASC) heads to Marshall, Texas for Saturday’s 7 p.m. kickoff with East Texas Baptist University (1-2, 1-0 ASC). The Bulldogs come off a 59-7 home defeat to No. 3-ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. ETBU opened conference play with a 33-20 win in Alpine, Texas over Sul Ross State.

TLU’s game on Saturday will have live video and audio broadcasts from Marshall. The video can be accessed at www.tlu.edu/athletics. Audio for the broadcast will be supplied by KWED 1580 AM. The audio only webcast of KWED’s call can be found at www.seguintoday.com and at www.tlu.edu/athletics.

Pre-game for the broadcasts starts at 6:30 p.m.

Volleyball

TLU swept all three conference games at TLU’s Tostengard Activity Center on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The Bulldogs did not drop a game in defeated Hardin-Simmons, McMurry and Sul Ross State.

The Bulldogs (6-2, 3-0 ASC) share the American Southwest Conference West Division lead with Schreiner (8-5, 3-0 ASC).

TLU travels to Concordia Texas tonight for a 6 p.m. match. The Tornados enter the match with an overall mark of 1-8 and a conference record of 0-3.

The Bulldogs play the next five match on the road or at neutral sites before returning back to Seguin for the Oct. 6 home match with Schreiner.

Women’s & Men’s Soccer

The Bulldogs host a soccer doubleheader Friday against Schreiner University. The women’s match starts at 1 p.m., and the men’s match begins at 4 p.m.

The women’s team currently sits in 10th place in the ASC with a conference mark of 0-1-1. TLU’s overall record stands at 2-3-1.

The men’s team is tied for 12th in the ASC with a conference record of 0-2. The Bulldogs overall record sits at 0-5.
