SEGUIN, Texas – The Texas Lutheran John Bohmann Memorial Invitational concluded Tuesday at the Golf Club of Seguin with a seventh-place showing for the Bulldogs and a playoff win for Jonathan Alden of Trinity.
The University of Texas at Brownsville claimed the tournament team title.
The Bulldogs finished seventh out of the 12 teams participating in the tournament. TLU closed with a third consecutive 299 on Tuesday for a tournament total of 897.
TLU senior Andrew Long (Seguin/Seguin) led the way for the Bulldogs with a three-round total of 213. Long started with a 2-under 70 and ended with a 2-under 70 and sandwiched those scores around a 73. Long finished in a tie for fifth overall.
Jacob Mock (Austin/Westlake) was the Bulldogs’ next best finisher. Mock tied for 32nd after rounds of 75, 72 and 78. Dither Castro and Tommy Barrera tied for 43rd and 52nd, respectively, and Chris Hyten tied for 55th.
Trinity’s Alden shot 71, 71 and 67 to tie in regulation with Brock Crosson of the University of Texas at Brownsville. Alden and Crosson went to a sudden-death playoff. On the first playoff hole, No. 1, Crosson bogeyed while Alden made par.
Crosson posted rounds of 72, 68 and 69 and helped UT-Brownsville to the tournament team title.
UTB ended the three-round tournament with a team scored 849. Hardin-Simmons and Trinity were second and third, respectively, with scores of 864 and 866.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (872), Southwestern (880), McMurry (882), TLU (897), University of Texas at Dallas (899), Concordia Texas (906), Mary Hardin-Baylor B (911), Texas Lutheran B (917), and Texas A&M International (934) rounded out the field.
TLU’s next tournament action will come on Sept. 21-22 at the Rhodes College Classic in Tunica, Miss.
