SEGUIN, Texas – Eight Texas Lutheran basketball players have been named to the American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference teams for women’s and men’s basketball.
The TLU men’s basketball team put six players on the Academic All-Conference squad. Among the 15 ASC men’s basketball teams with honorees, TLU had the second-most players on the academic team. (LeTourneau had seven Academic All-Conference selections.)
The TLU women’s team put two players on the Academic All-Conference team.
To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have lettered in the 2008-09 season, be in at least the second academic year at their institution, and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better.
TLU senior Josh Scott (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) was named to the ASC Academic All-Conference squad for a third straight season. Scott was joined on the squad by fellow senior Nate Walton (Houston/Westside).
The Bulldogs put four sophomores on the men’s basketball academic team. Malcolm Dotson (LaMarque/LaMarque), Jonathan Hutton (Austin/Lake Travis), Michael Johnson (Austin/Austin), and Drew Smith (Helotes/O’Connor) made the team in their first year of eligibility.
Madilyn Caran (Yorktown/Yorktown) and Jessica Macias (San Antonio/Harlandale) made the ASC Academic All-Conference squad for women’s basketball. Caran earned a spot on the team for a third consecutive season. Macias was a first-time selection to the squad.
