SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran senior third baseman/pitcher Jeremy Macklin and freshman pitcher Brad Orosey were each named to the D3baseball.com 2009 All-America Team.

Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) and Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) were joined on the NCAA Division III All-West Region Team by senior center fielder Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian).

Macklin earned a spot on the D3baseball.com All-America Second Team as a utility player, and Orosey was named to the D3baseball.com All-America Honorable Mention Team.

Orosey was a First Team All-West Region selection as a pitcher, and Macklin was a Second Team All-West Region choice as a utility player. Harvey received an All-West Region Third Team award.

Macklin and Orosey are the 24th and 25th playing All-Americans in TLU baseball history. They are the first All-American honorees from TLU since shortstop Jake Kaase’s award in 2007. Macklin and Orosey are the first Bulldog teammates to be honored in the same year since catcher Aaron Crais and pitcher Matt Hunn were All-Americans in 2005.

Macklin, TLU’s 2008-09 Male Athlete of the Year, set new Bulldog single-season records for RBI per game (1.63) and hits per game (1.88) and led the Bulldogs to the 2009 ASC West Division title. Macklin starred as the team’s clean-up hitter with offensive numbers that included a .456 average, 67 RBI, 12 home runs, three triples, and 17 doubles. He also stole nine bases in nine attempts.

Late in the 2009 season, with TLU in need of another starting pitcher, Macklin stepped into the role. He finished the year with a 6-1 record and a 1.99 ERA. Macklin tossed a complete game to defeat Hardin-Simmons in Abilene as the Bulldogs clinched the ASC West title outright. He made 13 pitching appearances and tossed two complete games, one shutout and one combined shutout.

Macklin was named the ASC West Division Co-Newcomer of the Year. He was also selected to the ASC West First Team as a third baseman and to the ASC West Second Team as a utility player.

For the week ending Feb. 28, Macklin was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association and D3baseball.com National Hitter of the Week for the NCAA Division III after establish school records for RBI in a three-game series (18) and RBI in a doubleheader (14). He also tied the TLU mark for RBI in a single game (8) and established a new TLU three-game series record for runs, with 11.

Orosey is the only freshman to appear on the All-West Region Teams. The right-hander from Houston pitched a conference-high 92 innings and tied for the conference lead in wins, with 10.

Orosey went 10-1 with a 3.72 ERA. He started 12 games and finished with four complete games and two combined shutouts. Orosey struck out 88 and walked only 22.

Orosey was the ASC Freshman of the Year and a Second Team All-ASC West selection. He won six games in conference play (second most in the ASC West) and lost only one ASC contest.

Harvey, a three-year starter in center field, set the new conference record for steals in a single season at 30. On the school record list, Harvey finished third in total steals for a single season, trailing only TLU Hall of Famer Dax Kiefer’s 35 steals in 1995 and 33 in 1994. (Harvey did eclipse Kiefer’s records for single-season and career steals per game.)

Harvey finished his career with 75 steals - second on the TLU all-time list to Kiefer’s 90. Harvey also ranks second, by just two steals, in the conference record book for career stolen bases.

Harvey was a career .370 hitter at TLU and ranks third on the school’s list for four-year batting average. His 62 runs and 18 doubles in 2009 each rank fifth in those respective single-season categories. In his senior year, Harvey hit .364 with career-best totals for runs (62), hits (64), home runs (8), stolen bases (30), and RBI (33).

Texas Lutheran, under the direction of second-year head coach Greg Burnett, posted a 30-14 overall record and 16-5 conference mark in 2009. After winning the seventh ASC West title in nine years, the Bulldogs won a first-round ASC Championship Tournament playoff series over University of the Ozarks before losing twice at the double-elimination round of the conference’s championship round.

The All-West Region honors are determined by a vote of the NCAA Division III West Region baseball coaches. The D3baseball.com honors are selected by a committee formed by D3baseball.com after online nominations submitted by representatives of the schools.
