TLU Today

Vesper tickets now available – Tickets are now available for Texas Lutheran University’s Christmas Vespers, an annual celebration of music and word. The performances will be at Jackson Auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6 and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Tickets may be requested through the TLU Web site, www.tlu.edu/vespers, by filling out an online form.  Tickets are free but necessary for entry due to the popularity of the performances.

The 2008 Christmas Vespers, “The Godly Stranger,” focuses on the Gospel of Matthew as Jesus tells his disciples that whatever they do for one another, they also do for Him.

The TLU Choir, TLU Women's Choir, and Kantorei Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Douglas R. Boyer, director of the School of Music, will be joined by the Symphonic Winds and Percussion, directed by Prof. Beth Bronk.

Some of the pieces that will be performed include: “The Rune of Hospitality” by Alf Houkom, “The Godly Stranger” by G. Winston Cassler, “Who is at My Window, Who?” by Welford Russell, and “Prayer for the Gifts” by Kinley Lange.

While they last, tickets also will be available at the TLU Bookstore, by phone at 830-372-6317 or by e-mailing vespers@tlu.edu. Please leave your name, mailing address, phone number, date and time of the performance you would like to attend, and the number of tickets requested.

Nominate a prospective student for a $1,000 award!
TLU alumni are invited to nominate a student who will be entering TLU for the first-time as a freshman or transfer for a TARA (TLU Alumni Recommendation Award), which is $1,000 in additional scholarship money.  An alumnus may nominate one person per year, and the award will be given to as many qualified students as are recommended.

The deadline for submission for the spring semester is Dec. 1, and the deadline for the 2009 Fall Semester is May 1, 2009.  Click here for more information and the one-page TARA recommendation form or visit the TLU Web site.

Lucky's Pack

S.A.U.C.E.Y!  The Jon and Sandra Moline Center for Servant Leadership is organizing a service project this year to create and maintain strong ties between alumni and TLU students.  S.A.U.C.E.Y! (Students and Alumni Unite in Civic Engagement. Yeah!) encourages alumni to suggest and volunteer for community service projects in their cities, including projects already being led by alumni or the companies they work for.  Current TLU students who live in these cities could then volunteer when they are at home, and work together with alumni to network and close the gap between alumni and students.

Some service project ideas include volunteering to help rebuild homes affected by the recent hurricanes, working with a community to paint murals, or serving at community centers and schools.

For more information, contact Taylor Carleton, director of alumni relations, (tcarleton@tlu.edu) who has been working on the project with Erica Castañeda, junior communication studies major.
