Planned Giving
Planning your gifts is advantageous regardless of age or economic circumstances. Gifts made to TLU as part of your financial and estate plan can provide current or future support for scholarships and other areas important to you. While these gifts help TLU students, they may also benefit you and your family. Careful planning allows you to take advantage of the tax laws established by the IRS for the purpose of encouraging charitable giving. At the same time, it enables you to choose the best assets to give and perhaps even receive income.

Types of Planned Gifts
Gifts That Provide Income for LifeLife income plans allow you to make a present gift to TLU and receive regular payments for life or a period of years. Charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities are two types of these gifts.
Gifts Through BequestsOne of the most important decisions you make is how to distribute your assets through your will and other estate plans. In addition to providing for family members and friends, your will can make a lasting gift, a legacy, to TLU.
Qualified Retirement PlansGifts of the remainder of your IRA and other retirement plans to TLU may be the most efficient designation you can make. If left to your children, these gifts may be taxed up to 55 percent or even 85 percent.
Charitable Lead TrustA trust that can provide immediate support to TLU for a specific time and then can be designated to heirs at a reduced transfer cost.
Gifts of Life InsuranceGifts of a paid-up policy that is no longer needed for its original purpose, an existing or newly established policy, or a simple designation of all or part of a policy provided to you by your employer can provide an excellent giving opportunity.
Gifts of Real EstateA gift of real estate may be very beneficial for TLU to receive and for you to give. Gifts may be outright or retained life estate.
