
The bands of Texas Lutheran University have a long history of excellence and diversity. The repertoire is carefully selected to present a variety of musical experiences – from the traditional to the historical to contemporary art literature. Membership is open to all university students who wish to continue their enjoyment of performing instrumental music either as a music major or non-major. Numerous scholarship opportunities are available.
Beth Bronk serves as director of bands in the TLU School of Music. Professor Bronk teaches courses in instrumental music education and serves as director of the Texas Lutheran University Summer Music Academy. Ms. Bronk taught instrumental music in Texas public schools for 18 years and most recently held the position of Director of Bands and music administrator for New Braunfels I.S.D. During her tenure at New Braunfels, her bands earned statewide recognition multiple times as Texas Music Educators Association State Honor Band finalist and U.I.L. State Marching Band finalist. Ms. Bronk currently teaches conducting, instrumental music education classes, and conducts the TLU bands. She also performs with the Prince Solms Brass Quintet and freelances in the San Antonio area. She holds memberships in the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu International Band Fraternity, College Band Directors National Association, and currently serves as president of the Texas Music Educators Association Region 12.
TLU String EnsembleThe TLU String Ensemble consists of TLU students who elect to study string instruments. Work is done on chamber music as well as larger ensemble settings. Membership is open to all university students who wish to continue their enjoyment of performing instrumental music either as a music major or non-major. Numerous scholarship opportunities are available.

Additional Opportunities
The Jazz Ensemble performs in concert at least once a semester to present a wide variety of big band jazz representing many historical styles. Membership is open by audition.
The Bulldog Pep Band, under the direction of Professor Beth Bronk, performs spirit music at all university home football games and select home basketball games. Enrollment is open to all interested TLU students and serves as an opportunity for students to continue musical ensemble participation without the time commitment of Concert Band.
The Mid-Texas Symphony provides an opportunity for students to audition for membership in this professional orchestra, which is based on the TLU campus. Mr. David Mairs is conductor of this fine regional organization. The Mid-Texas Symphony performs at least seven concerts per academic year.
