Education Faculty
Anna Bergstrom, instructor; bachelor of arts in biology, the University of Texas; master of science in gifted and talented education, Texas A & M International University; and doctorate (Ph.D. to be completed December 2007) in Instructional Technology, the University of Texas. Her areas of specialization include instructional technology, math education and science education with a special interest in the role of laboratory instruction.
For 11 years she taught math, computer science, biology, chemistry and physics in junior high and high schools. She is a member of several professional societies and has presented papers at national, regional and state meetings.
Rosemary Dawson, director for the Center for Professional Development, director of TLU's Post-baccalaureate Alternative Teacher Certification Program, certification officer with SBEC, and adjunct professor. Doctorate, University of Southern California in instructional development and technology; bachelor's degree, Northwestern University in elementary education.
Dr. Dawson has extensive experience and education in administration, business development, teaching, research, evaluation, grant/ contract writing, competency-based education, military voluntary education, change management, diversity, and creative problem solving in educational, business, and military settings in the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has taught at entry level from elementary through doctoral and has consulted with more than a dozen organizations in the areas of management and leadership, change, diversity, training, instructional design, and evaluation.
Leroy Davis, assistant professor and director of field experience/student teacher supervisor; bachelor of science in secondary speech and English Education, Jackson State University (Mississippi); master of education, Bowling Green State University (Ohio); doctorate (Ed.D.), The University of Texas at Austin in educational administration. His areas of specialization are secondary/elementary school administration, secondary curriculum development, and school restructuring.
Dr. Davis taught high school English and speech in Ohio and middle school language arts in Texas. He has also been an assistant principal at several high schools and middle schools, a principal at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels in Texas and Illinois, and a central office administrator in Texas. He has led restructuring of two high schools, a middle school, and an elementary school. He is a member of several professional, social, and civic organizations. He also presented workshops at state and national conferences.
Rebecca Oekerman, associate professor; bachelor of science in elementary education, Ohio University; master of arts in education, The University of Texas of the Permian Basin; doctorate (EdD) in educational psychology, Texas Tech University. Her areas of specialization are early childhood education and early literacy.
Dr. Oekerman taught in public and private schools in Ohio and Texas in preschool, elementary, and middle school classrooms. She also served as the director of an early childhood program and member of a West Texas school district Board of Trustees. Her areas of research include obesity in the early childhood profession and quality in child care settings. She has published in various state and national journals.
