Admission Procedures to
the Teacher Education Program
Students must complete applications by October 1 and February 1 to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program for the following semester. Students may not enroll in the professional sequence courses until the Teacher Education Committee approves admittance. Applications may be considered for admission when the following conditions have been met:
- Present and maintain an overall cumulative GPA of 2.90.
- Completion the following courses with a “C” or better: MATH 133 or higher, ENG 131, 132, FE134 (or equivalent), PSY 236 (or concurrent enrollment), and 6 hours from two different dimensions as demonstrations of ability to read, write, compute and think critically in academic settings. In addition, students are urged to complete COMP374 prior to filing for admission to the Teacher Education Program.
- Passage of all sections of THEA with the following scores: Reading 260, Math 230, and Writing 220.
- Complete interview process.
- Completion of TEACH I, II and III and required field experiences in academic settings.
- Recommendations from general education faculty, advisors, designated personnel from the office of student life, and from faculty in the department of education.
- Complete and submit application by Oct.1 or Feb. 1.
- A score of 550 on the TOEFL or other sufficient documentation of English language proficiency for international students.
