Department of Modern Languages
The Modern Languages Department offers a major and a minor in Spanish Studies and a minor in French Studies for students seeking to develop their communication skills and expand their cultural knowledge in Spanish and French. In addition to the academic program, the Modern Languages Department makes available to students various opportunities to engage in authentic language-learning experiences including Languages Across the Curriculum, Study Abroad, Border Seminars and membership in honorary and service organizations.
Major in Spanish Studies
A total of 124 semester hours of course work is required for graduation from Texas Lutheran University . A major in Spanish Studies consists of 29 semester hours with a minimum of 18 hours of upper-division course work, 300-400 level.
Minor in Spanish Studies
The minor in Spanish Studies requires 18 semester hours in Spanish Studies. Twelve of the 18 hours should be upper-division course work, 300-400 level.
A semester or a year of Study Abroad in a Spanish speaking country may be substituted for the upper-division work and is strongly recommended to become fluent in Spanish.
Minor in French Studies
The minor in French Studies requires 18 semester hours in French including a maximum of 12 semester hours from FR 131, 132, 231, 232 as well as six semester hours from FR 331, independent study or internship.
A semester of study abroad in a Francophone country may be substituted for the upper-division work, and is strongly recommended to become fluent in French.
