Department of History and Geography
The word history comes from the Greek and Latin terms for inquiring and knowing. It describes a branch of knowledge in which we seek to learn about human life over time. We debate concepts and theories about why humans have acted in specific ways, which leads to ideas about society today. It is often present-day concerns that inspire the study of the past – we wish to know how we got to where we are.
A major in history provides students with the skills required to seek out knowledge, analyze complex issues and present conclusions in a clear and thoughtful manner.
Special Opportunities The history department offers specialization in liberal arts and pre-law. The department attempts to help students with internship opportunities.
