Department of Kinesiology

The kinesiology department integrates the liberal arts and sciences with the development of values and attitudes associated with a healthy and well-disciplined body.

The department offers advanced theory courses in kinesiology leading to a major or teaching field and personal well-being courses in support of the general university curriculum.

Special Opportunities
A recent addition, the Keiffer Kinesiology Lab contains state-of-the-art motion analysis equipment.  The lab is well-equipped to provide students with unique learning experiences and competencies unavailable at the undergraduate level at most other universities.  Students' involvement includes filming, digitizing, and analyzing sport/motor skills using standard and advanced 3-D equipment.  Faculty-student interaction opportunities include internships, independent studies, and research presentation/publication.

  • Internships: Students spend up to a full semester in a real situation related to their career objectives.
  • Independent Studies: Students have the opportunity to pursue an area of interest in greater depth.
  • Laboratory Assistants: Students work in the human performance lab administering stress tests, prescribing exercise programs and conducting research.
  • Senior Seminars: Graduating seniors in certain degree programs conduct extensive research on a topic of interest culminating in an oral presentation.
  • Student Majors' Club, Kinesiology Professional Organization (KPO) -- Kinesiology majors are involved in student activities that provide an early start as a professional physical educator.
