Department of Biology
The Department of Biology acquaints students with basic and advanced concepts dealing with the structure and function of organisms. There is an emphasis on training in mathematics, chemistry and physics to provide students with an understanding of the importance of biology as an interdisciplinary study.
Students may earn a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science in general biology, or choose a bachelor of science in one of two different tracks:
Molecular Biology Track
Current developments in scientific research are studied at the biochemical level. This is for students pursuing a medical, dental or veterinary profession, or higher degrees in:
- Pharmacology
- Biochemistry
- Biotechnology
- Molecular genetics
- Physiology
- Cellular biology
- Neuroscience
- Microbiology
Environmental Biology Track
This is for students pursuing a career or higher degree in:
- Wildlife biology
- Ecology
- Plant sciences
- Conservation
- Natural resource management
Bachelor of Science, Biology
The bachelor of science degree is available for students interested in acquiring a broad-based biology background as preparation for a variety of careers or higher degrees in biology or medicine.
Bachelor of Arts, Biology
The bachelor of arts degree is for students interested in combining a biology degree with other studies such as education or business, and for students interested in health science professions such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and nursing.
Special Opportunities
Research
Undergraduates are encouraged to collaborate and actively participate in original research with the faculty.
Senior Seminars
Each senior participates in a seminar that may include an original research project, a poster presentation and an oral presentation using the latest technology in visual aids.
