Questions to Think About...
- What kind of special skills, talents, or passions do you have? How are you going to work them into your education plan at TLU?
- Consider taking a semester off campus with international or domestic study programs. Would you like to intern in Washington D.C.? Are you fascinated with some part of the world? Should you start or continue foreign language?
- What type of experiential learning should you consider? International Education programs, internships, field experiences, work-study possibilities, research with faculty, or service learning trips? Why? When?
- What would you like to major and minor in? What really interests you?
- If you already have a career direction in mind, what kind of majors supports that career? Do post-graduate study, certification, or licensure requirements need to be considered?
- What kind of capstone experience do you want in your major field? An independent project? Some supervised research during your senior year? Student teaching? A presentation at a professional conference? What will pull your learning all together for you?
- What would you study if the University had no requirements? What ideas interest you that do not fall neatly into academic disciplines? Should you include theatre or science courses because they are fun? Will life be more satisfying if you’ve had art or music? Do you think every curious person should know something about psychology, philosophy, or economics?
- What can you gain from co-curricular activities? Which activities can expand and enhance your education? Your academic performance? Which activities give you personal satisfaction?
- What do you want to give back to your immediate community? To Texas Lutheran University? To society? Should you do volunteer work or get involved with TLU governance?
- How can you polish the skills and abilities that interest potential employers? Good interpersonal, organizational, leadership, computer, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills are crucial!
