TLU Volleyball eliminated in ASC Tournament semifinal
RICHARDSON, Texas ñ The Texas Lutheran womenís volleyball team fell in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament semifinal Friday evening to No. 10-ranked and still undefeated University of Texas at Dallas.
At the UTD Activity Center, the Comets (24-0) downed the Bulldogs 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 to advance to the ASC Championship match at 2 p.m. Saturday. Texas-Dallas will play Hardin-Simmons (22-6) for the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
TLU ends its season with an overall record of 20-10.
Amber Wetz led the Comets with 15 kills and just one error in 28 attempts (.500 hitting percentage). She added 16 digs and a block assist. Dana Hilzendager added 10 kills without an error in 20 attempts.
Texas-Dallas setter Niki Calverley contributed 39 assists, two service aces and eight digs.
TLU received 10 kills from junior outside hitter Jessica Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill) and nine kills form Sarah Black (Needville/Needville).
Bulldog setter Amanda Curry (Lago Vista/Lago Vista/Hardin-Simmons) recorded 22 assists and a team-best 19 digs.
The Bulldogs hit .039 as a team while the Comets posted a hitting percentage of .236.
TLU advanced to the ASC semifinal with a Friday afternoon win over Mississippi College.
TLU advances to ASC tournament semifinal with win over MC
RICHARDSON, Texas – The Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball team advanced to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament semifinal with a three-game win Friday afternoon over Mississippi College.
At the University of Texas at Dallas Activity Center, TLU defeated MC 25-23, 25-7, 34-32. The Bulldogs trailed late in games one and three but rallied past the Choctaws.
The Bulldogs will play undefeated and No. 10-ranked University of Texas at Dallas (23-0) at 7 p.m. Friday in the UTD Activity Center.
The winner of the UTD/TLU match advances to the 2 p.m. Saturday championship match. The conference tournament champion received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. Hardin-Simmons and McMurry meet in the other Friday semifinal.
Jessica Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill) led TLU with 17 kills and hit .279. Blair O’Brien (Austin/Manor) led all players with 30 digs and three aces.
Jamie Jahns (Spring/Klein Collins) added 14 kills and five digs. Sarah Black (Needville/Needville) contributed 11 kills and six digs.
TLU improved to 20-9 overall. MC finished its 2009 season with an overall mark of 13-14.
