SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran senior middle blocker Jamie Jahns (Spring/Klein Collins) has been named the American Southwest Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week.
Jahns hit .439 with 43 kills over nine games to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 week. Jahns also added 5.5 blocks, one service ace and one dig.
Against Concordia Texas last Tuesday, Jahns hit .696 with 16 kills in 23 attempts without an error. Her kills total without an error tied a school record, and her hitting percentage mark was the third-best for a match in school history.
Jahns and the Bulldogs (19-9) put their season on the line Friday in an American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinal match against Mississippi College (13-13). Match start time is set for 2:30 p.m. at the University of Texas at Dallas Activity Center in Richardson, Texas.
The winner of the TLU/Mississippi College match faces nationally-ranked and undefeated tournament host University of Texas at Dallas (23-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The tournament championship match is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the UTD Activity Center.
TLU is 1-0 against Mississippi College in 2009. The Bulldogs won in four games on Oct. 3. TLU is 0-1 against Texas-Dallas in 2009. The Comets won in three games on Oct. 16. Both results occurred on neutral floors.
TLU has two ASC tournament crowns in its volleyball history. The Bulldogs last won the title in 2007. In that 2007 tournament, the Bulldogs won three matches over two days at the UTD Activity Center. TLU defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Texas-Dallas on Friday and Hardin-Simmons on Saturday to advance to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Hardin-Simmons junior libero Gracen Harris (Austin, TX / Westwood HS) averaged 5.7 digs per set of two victories that helped the Cowgirls clinch the ASC West Division title. Harris, who takes the division’s top weekly defensive award for the fourth time this season, added two service aces and one kill. She leads the conference in digs per set.

Niki Calverley, S, Jr., Texas-DallasTexas-Dallas junior setter Niki Calverley (Wylie, TX / WHS) dished out 92 assists and totaled seven service aces over three matches to help the nationally-ranked Comets cap off the first undefeated regular season in ASC volleyball history. Calverley, who takes the division’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season and leads the ASC in assists per set, also added 23 digs, three kills and a block. She helped UTD defeat Austin College for the first time in program history.

Melanie Power, LIB, Fr., Texas-Dallas
Texas-Dallas freshman libero Melanie Power (San Antonio, TX / Churchill HS) totaled 43 digs over three matches to help the nationally-ranked Comets record the first undefeated regular season in ASC volleyball history. Power, who takes the division’s top weekly defensive award for the fifth-straight week, also added one kill, one assist and one service ace. She had 16 digs in a sweep of Austin College that was UTD’s first win over the Kangaroos in program history.
