GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's volleyball team posted a 1-1 record at the Southwestern Halloween Tournament on Saturday with a win over Austin College and a loss to host Southwestern.
In its first match of the day, TLU won three tight games against Austin College, defeating the Kangaroos 26-24, 31-29, 26-24. Jamie Jahns and Jessica Stetler each registered 18 kills for the Bulldogs in the win.
Amanda Curry registered 41 assists, and Blair O'Brien added 23 assists in the TLU victory.
Against Southwestern, TLU fell in three games, 25-23, 25-8, 25-16. Jahns again led TLU in kills. She had nine. Curry added 21 assists and an ace. Eden Denney produced two block assists.
TLU ends the regular season with an overall record of 19-9.
TLU now turns its attention to the 2009 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, set for Nov. 6-7 at the University of Texas at Dallas Activity Center in Richardson, Texas. The Bulldogs open the tournament against Mississippi College (13-13) in a quarterfinal match set for 2:30 p.m. Friday.
If TLU wins the quarterfinal match, the Bulldogs would play again Friday, in the tournament semifinal against host Texas-Dallas. The TLU-UTD semifinal would start at 7:30 p.m.
TLU is a two-time winner of the ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament. The Bulldogs won titles in 2004 and 2007.
