CLINTON, Miss. – The Texas Lutheran women’s cross country team finished fourth in the team standings at the 2009 American Southwest Conference Women’s Cross Country Championships.
The University of Texas at Tyler won the meet, hosted Saturday in Clinton, Miss., by Mississippi College. Texas-Tyler finished with a team score of 40.
McMurry was second, with 49, and Mississippi College was third, with 57.
TLU took fourth with 87 points.
The Bulldogs were followed in the team standings by Hardin-Simmons (117), East Texas Baptist (203), University of Texas at Dallas (237), LeTourneau (239), Louisiana College (243), and University of the Ozarks (253).
TLU’s top finisher was freshman Chelsea Johnson, who took eighth place overall and earned All-ASC Second Team honors. Johnson crossed the line in 26 minutes, 16.33 seconds.
The conference meet was contested over 6,000 meters.
TLU freshman Samantha Gutierrez, sophomore Brooke Basey, and junior Hillary Davidson took 18th, 19th, and 20th places, respectively.
Tiffany Wetz and Ravin McCallum came home in 27th and 28th positions, respectively. Sarah Patterson rounded out the Bulldogs’ top seven with a 32nd-place finish.
